Tip for November 2011

Double check your work to avoid mistakes

Each year, malpractice claims continue to be made against lawyers for errors that could have been avoided.  Such errors include placing the wrong date on the calendar for the expiration of the statute of limitations.  Sometimes the client has given the wrong date of injury and other times the lawyer's staff inadvertently wrote down the wrong date.  A practice of double-checking the entry of such dates at the time of entry as well as at later times, will help prevent missing those deadlines and being the recipient of a claim by the client.  A policy of re-checking the date of injury and statute of limitations when a police report or medical records are received can help prevent claims based on missing thosse kinds of deadlines.
