Delegate, but also Supervise

While your firm may be more productive when you delegate work to associates and paralegals, be sure you have in place adequate procedures for monitoring the work of your subordinates. Lawyers have a duty to supervise the work that is delegated, whether it is delegated to employees of the firm or outsourced to a person outside the firm.  Not only will adequate supervision help prevent mistakes and malpractice claims, but it may help avoid a disciplinary proceeding as well.
