Be prepared to respond to a disaster

Disasters may strike in many forms, some from natural causes and others from the intentional acts of malicious persons. Disasters include fire, tornado, hurricane, flood, explosion, mudslide, armed intruder and terrorist attack. Law firms should have a plan in place to respond to events such as these, starting with a plan to protect the safety of law firm staff, clients and visitors, as well as client files and property. The plan should also include recovery from a disaster, such as ways to communicate with law firm staff and clients, preserving client files and other important documents, adequate insurance coverage and a response team that will implement the plan if it is needed. Among the many articles in this web site are articles addressing this issue, including "Preparation for Disaster: Response and Recovery."
